The Auberge de la Croisade

Imagine...            ...Your ideal meal out in the South of France

Imagine…

      - An idyllic setting beside the Canal du Midi with views
across the vallev of the Aude to the distant Pyrenees...
      - A range of imaginative and delicious gastronomic menus
using fresh local produce, from the modestly priced
        through to the very special...
      - A carefully chosen and reasonably priced wine list
featuring, as well as the great names, the best of local
wineries, from the Corbières, St Chinian and the Minervois
to the small independent wine growers and the
up-and-coming Cave Coopérative of the neighbouring
        village...
      - A warm welcome and a pleasant relaxed atmosphere with
        attentive but not over-fussy service…

You have just imagined lunch or dinner at the Auberge de la Croisade, and if you are lucky enough to find yourself in the south west corner of the Department of the Hérault where it borders with the Aude, 17 km north of Narbonne, 23 km west of Béziers and 50 km east of Carcassonne, this can become a reality for you.

After apprenticeships served at the Tour d'Argent and the Hôtel Crillon in Paris, in London at the Dorchester and Claridges, and at some of the best restaurants in the Languedoc, the two Brunos - one front of house (and English-speaking), the other in charge of the kitchen - opened the Auberge in 1993 in a converted Canal workers' building. Your table will be in a beautifully restored dining room or in the conservatory, overlooking the Canal, or when the weather is fine on the shady terrace.

La Croisade is a leafy hamlet just off the 'Minervoise' (the D5/D11, which runs between Béziers and Carcassonne), between the villages of Cruzy and Ouveillan. It is situated ninety minutes by boat along the Canal du Midi from Capestang or Le Somail, and can be reached on foot or by bicycle along the towpath from Capestang or Argellers - or from further afield.

The Auberge is open all year, apart from ten days in late November and three weeks in February. The restaurant is popular with locals and visitors alike, and you are strongly advised to book in advance by telephoning : 04 67 89 36 36. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from Thursday to Sunday inclusive and closed ou Tuesdays; opening times on Monday and Wednesday vary according to the season - click here for further information.
